PCOD, polycystic ovarian disease or PCOS is prominently characterized by hormonal disorder in women which disrupts normal ovulation and menstrual cycle. During this disorder most often, the ovaries dysfunction, leading to hormonal disbalance, weight gain, facial hair, pimples, hair loss, and in rare cases infertility along with formation of unwanted follicular cysts in one or both the ovaries.


The exact cause of PCOS is yet not known. But medical researchers believe that genetics, sedentary lifestyle, food habits, insulin resistance and the excess production of hormone “testosterone” is responsible for the outbreak of this disorder particularly in women of reproductive age. PCOD has been reported in females as young age 14 years, which is a huge matter of concern for parents and family members worldwide.
